How often should I get an eye exam?
Adults with no known vision problems should get a comprehensive exam every two years. Annual exams are recommended for contact lens wearers, patients over 60, diabetics, and anyone with a family history of eye disease.
What's the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?
Optometrists provide primary eye care including exams, prescriptions, disease management, and contact lens fittings. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who perform eye surgery. We refer to and co-manage with ophthalmologists when surgery or specialized medical treatment is needed.
Can I use my health insurance for eye exams?
We accept most major vision insurance plans as well as medical insurance when the visit is related to an eye disease or medical condition. Our staff will verify your benefits before your appointment.
At what age should my child have their first eye exam?
The American Optometric Association recommends a first eye exam at 6 months, again at age 3, and before starting school. Early exams can detect problems that affect learning and development.
How long does an eye exam take?
A comprehensive eye exam typically takes 30-45 minutes. Contact lens fittings may add an additional 15-20 minutes. We recommend allowing about an hour for your visit including frame selection if needed.
